A Night in Lights
Oh, what a night! On May 20, 2019, The Bowery Mission hosted its annual Broadway at the Boathouse event at The Loeb Boathouse in Central Park, in support of their children’s programs. Themed “A Night in Lights”, the evening featured show tunes and performances from Broadway shows that have been adapted for the big screen.
In addition to great performances, guests also enjoyed cocktails and dinner while listening to inspiring words about the life-changing experiences offered through The Bowery Mission’s children’s programs— Mont Lawn City Camp and Summer Camp. Jonah, who has grown up in the Mont Lawn children’s programs for the past six years, shared a few words:
“I live in a community where there is gang violence and so much negativity for me to get involved with. Many days are hard for me, but with the help of Mont Lawn, I have learned and continue to learn how to overcome problems, use self-control, how to choose and be a good friend and role model, and — most importantly — how to shine my light.”
The designs evoke the glowing neon lights of the movie theater, as well as the bright lights of New York City at night, and showcase Yuling’s love of mixing and matching graphic hues. Featuring radiating neon lines and striking circles of color that mimic a bokeh effect, the pieces are festive and full of visual movement.
Each summer, the City Camp students join others for a week long summer adventure at the Mont Lawn Summer Camp, located in the beautiful Pocono Region of Pennsylvania. For many of the campers, the summer camp offers them a series of “firsts”, including riding in a boat or canoe.
In an effort to give the guests a small taste of the enriching camp experience, and the ability to experience the impact of their giving, we created a photo booth backdrop of the lake at the camp, with a custom die-cut canoe.
From this event, more than $115,000 was raised in critical funds to offer The Bowery Mission’s children a positive first chance, and to empower them to thrive and succeed.
