For The Bowery Mission’s 2018 Broadway at the Boathouse event, Yuling brought a softer, more textural interpretation of the “stars and lights” theme to The Loeb Boathouse at Central Park. Against the backdrop of the lake and the park, the historic, urban oasis provided a serene setting for the guests to enjoy classic Broadway performances from Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, Les Misérables, and more.
The designs were a marriage of a hand-drawn, watercolor wash from illustrator Jacqueline Tam, and Yuling Design’s signature custom typography play. Textured swirls, rich veining, and variegated hues juxtapose and create a nice backdrop to the articulated lettering. The resulting designs are beautifully whimsical, raw, but still refined.
In addition to great performances, the guests also heard some inspiring words from 16-year-old Alice, a Mont Lawn Summer Camper: “I wouldn’t be the person I am today, and the woman I am becoming, if not for the counselors I look up to, the friends I made and the lessons I learned at Mont Lawn Camp.”
The evening raised more than $250,000 for The Bowery Mission’s Children’s Programs— Mont Lawn City Camp and Summer Camp — that empower children to thrive and succeed.
